Leave A ReviewWhy Would I Choose Occupational Therapy for ADHD and AuDHD Coaching?
An Occupational Therapist is more than an ADHD Coach, or Mentor.
Controversial? Perhaps. But certainly true. Let me explain.
I am passionate about helping late diagnosed women, birthing people, and adults who find the wheels falling off after having children or hitting perimenopause. I have benefitted from working with an incredible ADHD Coach myself.
(BTW If this rings any bells for you or someone you care about then it's worth checking out http://www.yourndot.com.au).
As an OT I am calling on my years of experience in an evidence based and highly regarded Allied Health profession.
As a late-diagnosed mother of two wonderful Chaos Gremlins, I know what it feels like when everything starts falling apart
As both I know how disorientating and unfair it is to follow that challenging path to diagnosis only to be left with 1 Big Answer - and a 492,000 More Questions!
As OTs we train for years in all the psychological, neurological, behavioural, environmental, relational, and systemic factors that underpin good coaching and we learn the therapies, interventions, and assessments that can take it all, safely, to a deeper level.
The absolute core of OT is that it takes a look at who you are, what matters most to you, what are the things that get in your way, and what are the special things about you that we can harness to help you do the things you want and need to do in the way that works best for you - so you can ultimately become your best and most awesome self!
As Your ND OT I am not interested in trying to “fix” you.
I help you find ways of doing things that actually work for you. I want to work with your brain, not against it. And I want you to learn to love who you are and let go of some boring, toned down version of yourself that honours no-one.
As an OT Coach I can help you with
Executive Function
finding Au/DHD-friendly ways to keep on top of daily demands like housework and life admin
setting up your world to reduce overstimulation and overwhelm
using your interests and strengths to build energy and increase motivation
exploring realistic self-care that fits into your real life - and definitely not someone else’s idea of it.
gently untangling the “shoulds” of motherhood and parenthood so you can focus on what truly matters to you and bring you back to feeling like the super-funky soul you've always suspected you were!
Emotional Regulation
As Your ND OT I can help you learn what things you love, like, and need around you to feel good, and the things that put your nervous system into panic mode before you even start your day.
I can help you learn to notice when your body starts giving you warning signs of dysregulation and overwhelm, so you can pull out your toolkit of options to feel safe, while your brain is still fully functioning.
Sensory Systems
If you don't know what your sensory preferences are, we can work on sensory assessments and interventions which can make a huge difference to where you find and lose your dopamine & serotonin stores.
Interoception
If you struggle to notice when you're hungry, or full, or even when you need a wee then we can design a program to increase your interoceptive awareness and integration.
Assessments
If you're overwhelmed at the prospect of following through with the Psychiatric diagnostic assessments for your suspected neurotype then we can work together to complete pre-diagnostic assessments so you know what to expect.
We can even complete 'screening' assessments to help you decide if this is something you want to look into more, or not.
Coaching and Occupational Therapy
If every day and every thing feels like 'a lot' then the very nature of regular, online sessions with Your ND OT means that we will use the occupation of attending the sessions to keep track of your goals, what's working and not, and what we're going to adjust moving forward. Using Occupation as Therapy!

PS I'm a married gay woman too so I am all about the neuro affirming, queer affirming, you affirming, culturally safe practice and none of that stuffy, aloof rubbish.
PPS I'm also Welsh, so I know what feeling like and outsider can be like... AND I have a nice accent (that won't budge even after 18 years)... AND if the correct trigger phrase is used I launch into all sorts of sing-alongs at will!
