Leave A ReviewAs the research director and a mental health coach at Sentient Professional Wellbeing, I work with both individuals and across organisations. I specialise in, and am passionate about, supporting individuals working in the animal welfare and broader ethical sectors to overcome professional challenges. If you are struggling with stress, anxiety, depression, compassion fatigue, grief and/or loss, I am here for you.
As a practitioner I use therapeutic frameworks such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Mindfulness-based approaches. Grief and loss are at the core of my practice – whether you are mourning the death of a loved one or the end of an important relationship, struggling with the loss of precious animal connections, or facing major life transitions. I also draw on over ten years of experience working in leadership roles and providing coaching and mentoring to students and working professionals and am deeply aware of the intersection of personal life challenges and workplace wellbeing.
I am dedicated to working with organisations to provide wellbeing workshops and training for those engaged in the noble causes of animal care, social justice, and environmentalism. With my background as an academic researcher at University of Technology in Sydney (UTS), I have published on psychosocial issues surrounding compassion and interspecies interactions.
My most recent research was in collaboration with an animal rights NGO, which aims at ending the dog and cat meat trade in certain Asian regions. This included researching the psychological impact on individuals involved in this trade, and highlighting how witnessing or participating in animal-directed violence greatly affects human beings too. The results from this study contributed to a collective movement that led to some significant changes at the UN level. Read more: https://profiles.uts.edu.au/Tani.Khara/publications
I hold a special affinity for serving multicultural clients and speak fluent English and Hindi, along with conversational Punjabi.
I'm not from Sydney, can I still make an appointment?
Yes! I will happily provide online sessions for all types of consultations, including training and workshops, no matter where you are in the world.
How do you tailor programs to your clients?
I start by getting to know you, first and foremost. I will engage in a detailed and open conversation with you about your goals and the various impacts or challenges that you are facing at the moment. We can talk about anything that is important to you. I seek to understand your cultural, spiritual, environmental and social world and will work with you in understanding how these factors influence and shape your life.
Form this, I will collaborate with you to create a plan with stepped goals. I will draw upon evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), as well as my extensive corporate and life experience to inform our plan. This is completely personalised to your lifestyle and preferences and we can adapt it as we go if you choose to. I find it most effective to be flexible and person-centered in my practice and will embrace your feedback as we go.
What sort of workshops do you provide?
I specialise in workplace wellbeing workshops and group training, both in person and online. I develop my customised workshops after conducting in-depth research into the areas that require improvement, from my clients' perspective. I work within all levels of an organisation, from customer-facing teams to C-Suite and executive level leadership.
